Welcome Back Letter
It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome all new and returning families to the 2021-22 MTSD school year. Our ‘Brave Little State’ continues to be recognized as a National and Global model for successfully responding to COVID-19. With a vaccination rate of almost 84%, our collective commitment to the health and safety of every citizen has positioned us well to open school on time, at full capacity and with a minimal number of restrictions. We are ready.
At this time, the Vermont Agency of Education in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health has outlined a series of requirements and recommendations for operating schools this fall. On the second page of this letter is a summary of the most important health and safety expectations for opening school.
Minimizing the impact of Covid-19 on student learning, social and emotional health is as important as preventing the spread of the virus. Our Vision of Learning that All MTSD learners are prepared to thrive, pursue their passions, and contribute dynamically to an ever-changing world in conjunction with our State-approved MTSD Lifting Student Learning Plan will serve as the foundation for new and existing approaches to teaching and learning so that we can successfully address the needs of all students.
The work for achieving our vision and mitigating the impact of Covid-19 on student learning is an all-encompassing journey. One that requires the strategic use of data, evidence-based practices, and strong collaboration both within the school and with our families and community partners. Collectively, it is our priority to ensure equity is present in all aspects of our system and that all students have access to an education that supports their growth and success. On behalf of the MTSD, we look forward to traveling this path with you.
Amy Rex, Superintendent
