Milton Town School District is anticipating an opening for an experienced Accountant. The accountant is responsible for maintaining the district’s finances in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Successful candidates will have an accounting degree, public sector accounting experience (ideally in a school setting) and be familiar with Enterprise Resource Planning accounting systems. The position is full time, year-round and reports to the Business Manager.

1. Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
2. Responds to information requests from internal staff and employees on a timely basis with complete and
accurate data. Redirects questions to the appropriate staff member as necessary.
3. Maintain accounting system, including general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll modules.
4. Develop, maintain, and ensure adequacy of internal controls procedures systems for budgetary,
procurement, cash collections and accounting operations.
5. Makes journal entries as necessary.
6. Processes cash receipts, invoices and purchase orders
7. Reconciles monthly bank statements.
8. Assure proper accounting of grant expenditures.
9. Interacts regularly with the Business Manager and elected treasurer to assure proper cash flow and
income and expenditure accounting.
10. Assists schools with financial information processing and actively coordinates with schools to ensure
receipt of essential information for accruals, cash receipts, and fund accounting reporting requirements.
11. Arrange and support an annual audit of all accounts by an independent auditor.
12. Prepare and oversee the preparation of reports required by state and federal agencies including the
Vermont Agency of Education.
13. Oversee the preparation of all state and federal tax filings, payroll-related reporting including W2 and
1099 information reporting, and ACA reporting.
14. Perform other tasks and duties in support of the District’s needs.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
1. Accounting degree.
2. At least three years of public sector accounting experience. School accounting experience preferred.
3. Strong knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board’s generally accepted accounting
4. Highly proficient in the use of technology, particularly Microsoft Excel, and Enterprise Resource Planning
systems. School financial software experience desirable.
5. Experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
6. Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, including the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
