Shape Our Schools, Shape Our Budget: Get Involved Early!
Where We Stand: Hard Choices & Real Impacts
Over the past several years, the Milton Town School Board has made significant budget reductions to lessen the tax impact on local homeowners. However, external state factors—like shifts in the Common Level of Appraisal (CLA)—have continued to drive up local taxes regardless of spending cuts.
Our year over year reductions are directly affecting the quality of programming and services we can provide to our students.
The Road Ahead
We are heading into another very difficult budget year. Fixed expenses for healthcare, salaries, transportation, and basic supplies are projected to rise by nearly $2.5 million just to maintain basic operations.
Although it will be some time (December) before we know the tax impact of the budget, it is likely that further reductions may be necessary to lessen it.
Prioritizing What Matters Most
We must focus on what is essential. Decisions will be grounded in data and tied directly to student proficiency. Our top priority will be protecting the core programs and services most critical to learning—especially foundational skills in literacy and math.
Why Your Voice Matters Right Now
Budgeting reflects our community's strategies and values. We need your input now—before final plans are set—to help guide these difficult decisions.
