My name is Manon Tenny and I am the Student Assistance Program Counselor (SAP) for grades 7-12. I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and a Licensed Student Assistance Professional. My employer is Spectrum Youth and Family Services, who has a contract with the district to provide SAP services. I have been an SAP at Milton Middle/High School for the last 8 years and have been working in the substance abuse field since 1989. I love working with teens in general and Milton teens in particular. I am a Milton resident.

The SAP is a "broad brush" prevention program open to all students and their parents/guardians. The focus of the program is to help students make healthy decisions and to lead drug-free lives.

What does the SAP do?

• Meet with students individually and in groups around such topics as drug and alcohol use, stress management, family conflict, social issues, self-esteem, etc.
• Screen and refer students who need outside services.
• Consult with parents about in-school support or outside services for their children around individual or family substance use issues.
• Run issue-specific groups such as smoking cessation, stress management, healthy decisions, etc.
• Teach Middle School prevention classes as part of the district prevention curriculum.
• Consult with administration, faculty and staff around prevention and use issues.
• Support Community Prevention by serving on the Milton Community Youth Coaliton, which oversees communitywide prevention efforts in Milton.
