I am the employment and transition specialist for the Milton Town School District. I work with high school students with intensive special needs, and get them ready for the challenges of adult life. My philosophy is that all students can and should be encouraged to be as independent as possible, and should be treated like the young adults that they are. My favorite aspect of this job is watching students I have known in the classroom for years spread their wings and find paid jobs in the community. I love watching students accept the challenges they are given, and find ways to increase their own independence. I have been working at Milton (in various capacities) since September of 2001. Before that I worked at a residential school for children with autism and behavioral disabilities in Massachusetts. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UMASS Dartmouth, and a Master’s in intensive special needs from Simmons College. I live in Milton with my husband and my three children, ages six, four, and a baby born in May 2008. We are also the shared parenting providers of an eleven year old. |
