Dear Incoming Freshman,

This summer you are required to read a minimum of two books. You should be prepared to discuss these books during the first week of school in the fall. It is beneficial to take notes and/or bring the books to the first week of English classes. This is a graded assignment.

Guideline for Summer Reading:

• One book should be from the 9/10th grade reading list. The other may be your own choice. Try to stay within or a little higher than your current reading level.
• During English 9, we will have a focus on the Community Book Discussion for the 2011-2012 year. These books are highly regarded as engaging and valuable reads. Take a look on the library website and choose one these novels for your summer reading!

Keep a journal of your reading and bring it to the first day of class. Your journal could be your Shelfari.com discussions, blogs, emails about reading and so on.....
We will discuss these books the first week and all through the year.
  There will be an assessment the first week of school on the Summer Reading

a verse novel, a graphic novel, fantasy, realistic fiction…..
