The
Alternative Education Program of Milton High School began
serving students in 1995. The program was established to
serve students struggling to achieve academic success in the mainstream
environment and are at risk
for dropping out of school. The main objective of the program is
to provide a high quality, standards-based education
utilizing a non-traditional approach to help students
achieve school success. Students are expected to attend
school regularly, complete work to the best of their
ability, participate positively in their
classes, and work with staff to achieve their personal and academic
goals. The program is
run in two sessions: a morning program and an afternoon
program. Students in both sessions are encouraged to
supplement their educational program with a part-time job in
the community, or if possible, by taking electives at the
main campus of Milton High School. All students within the
program receive individualized and small-group academic instruction.
Students are also expected to participate in skills-oriented groups
that are focused on addressing our students' unique needs and promoting
mastery and success.
Students in the Alternative Education Program must earn 22
credits, the same amount as their counterparts at the main
campus, to earn their diploma. We are currently located
in the Milton Chiropractic Center building, at 165 Route 7 South,
Milton, Vermont. Program
