Course Descriptions
Foreign languages are becoming increasingly important in today's world, and all students are encouraged to take advantage of Milton's language offerings. College preparatory students need to complete at least a Level II course in one foreign language, although some colleges recommend completion of at least Level III in one or more languages. Students are encouraged to complete Levels I, Part I&2, and Level II without any semester breaks in between.

Spanish I (Part I)

This course is a basic introduction to Spanish language and culture.  Students will read, write and learn basic conversational skills in this course.  Hispanic culture is introduced through readings, audio-visual materials and activities. This course will be challenging for students with a DRP of 3 or below. 

Spanish I (Part II)

This course is a continuation to Spanish I. Students will continue to read, write and learn basic conversational skills in this course. Hispanic culture is introduced through readings, audio-visual materials and activites.

RECOMMENDATION: Grade of C or better in Spanish I (part I)

Spanish II

This course is designed to provide students with a continued study of Spanish grammar, culture, and conversational skills.  There will be more emphasis on reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language. 

RECOMMENDATION:  Grade of C or better in Spanish I.

Spanish III

This course is designed for students who have successfully completed Spanish II.  Students will be perfecting their foreign language skills in writing, speaking, listening and reading.  This course is taught in Spanish. 

RECOMMENDATION:  Grade of C or better in Spanish II.

Spanish IV

This course is designed as a continued study of Spanish III. The emphasis is on fluency in spoken Spanish and improved writing skills. In addition, the students are introduced to Spanish literature. This course is recommended for college-bound students. 

RECOMMENDATION:  Successful completion of Spanish III

Spanish V

This course will introduce the student to a variety of selections from Hispanic Literature. This course will continue to develop students' breath of knowledge of language structures in Spanish and build upon students' prior language skills. Conversation will be expanded and students will be expected to speak only in the target language. Students will continue to explore a variety of Spanish-speaking cultures, both past and present. Some students may elect to take the Advanced Placement Language Exam upon successful completion of this course.
