THE COMMUNITY

     Milton is situated between Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains, about 15 miles north of Burlington, Vermont.  With an estimated population of 9,500 people, Milton encompasses approximately 38,000 acres of land.  The town was formed in 1763.  Milton enjoys a wide variety of year-round seasonal activities due to its easy access to Lake Champlain and the surrounding mountains.

THE SCHOOL

      The current building houses Grades 7-12.  The total enrollment at the high school is approximately 564 students.  There are core subject teams for the 9th and 10th grade.  Approximately 5 percent of our student body attend either Essex or Burlington Technical Center. 

 

ACCREDITATION

      Milton High School is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges and the Vermont Department of Education.

CURRICULUM

      A comprehensive curriculum is offered to approximately 564 students in grades 9-12.  Students have the option of attending either the Burlington or the Essex Technical Centers in the junior or senior year.  Students may attend select evening classes through the Champlain Valley Regional High School Consortium.

      There are core teams in the 9th and 10th grades, which include English, Social Studies, Math and Science.  In the 9th grade, students take Foundations of Language and Literature, World History (Ancient Civilization), Integrated Algebra & Geometry and Physical Science.  In the 10th grade, students take World Literature, World History, Biology and Integrated Algebra & Geometry.

      Of the 54 faculty members, approximately 66% have a Master’s degree.  Nearly 10% of the faculty have a doctoral degree or are enrolled in a doctoral program.

      Advanced Placement courses are offered in Biology, Calculus, U.S. History, English, Physics and Environmental Science.

      There is a drop out prevention program that has been in operation for the past six years.  Some students also attend an alternative program outside the main building.
