Our visit to the elementary school started with a welcome ceremony complete with songs and movement from each grade level! We American teachers each introduced ourselves in Japanese. Then, one or two of us would make a speech.
We went on to observe assigned classes. I was sent
to a fourth grade class that was playing a game to teach words in
English--"fruit basket". After, we were allowed to roam the school
observing as we wished. Students escorted us back to our assigned classes
for lunch. My classroom did a great job of conversing with me in English, while
I tried to use my Japanese.
At the end of the day, we would have a question and answer session with the administration and staff.
