Use pockets of time to promote learning
What can you do with five extra minutes? Here’s what teachers recommend: Teach values. Read a short story that has moral dilemmas. Discuss why actions are right or wrong. Tell your child you love her. Children need to feel loved to take the risks necessary to learn. Teach basic life skills: Tying shoes. Making her bed. Getting dressed. Look out the window together. Encourage your child to ask questions about what she sees.

Have fun with fractions
Learning fractions can be a challenge for some children. You can help with these fun hands-on activities: Travel fractions. Have your child count how many cars you pass. What fraction are a certain color? Take turns choosing a color and seeing who has the largest fraction. Change that recipe! Ask your child to rewrite the amount of each ingredient to double or halve a recipe. Eat your fractions. Have your child divide a pizza into halves, thirds, eighths!
