Common cents: Practice making change
To give your child practice making correct change, create an imaginary cash register. Here’s how: Divide five dollars’ worth of change into four boxes—one each for pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Then put together a bag of “products” with prices marked. You and your child take turns being cashier and customer. Make the game more challenging by increasing the number of items purchased.
