School Year 2016-2017
Dear Milton Elementary School Families,
As the Administrative Team at Milton Elementary School, we warmly welcome you and your child to the Milton Town School District. We recognize that ALL of the 845 students we proudly serve in the early education programs through fifth grade are the future of our community.
ALL families are invited to Milton Elementary School’s “Back-to-School Family Night” on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. This will be an informal event for students to see their classrooms before the start of school.
The 2016-2017 school year begins the educational journey for the incoming kindergarten students who will graduate from high school in the year 2029. As our schools prepare our students to be both college and career ready, we are committed to providing excellent educational programming that concentrates on the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of ALL students. We appreciate that the 2,327 days of school between kindergarten and high school graduation are crucial times for the personal, social, emotional, and academic development of each child that establishes the basis for ALL learning.
The first day of school for Milton School is Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
Part of the wonder and awe of the beginning of a school year is the sense of anticipation, abundance, and excitement as students return to meet new teachers, new friends, and new educational experiences. As your principals, we look forward to sharing these experiences with you and your child.
ALL parents and/or guardians are always welcome in Milton Elementary School. We view families as partners in providing children with meaningful educational opportunities. Additionally, we encourage parents to become active participants in school programs and classroom activities. There are many ways to support your child such as volunteering to help in the classroom, library, or cafeteria, chaperoning field trips, and joining Milton Elementary School P.T.A.
Among the most significant contributions that parents can make to enhance the academic progress of their child is to read to them at home, ensure that there is ample time and appropriate quiet space for your child to do homework. Developing good habits of study starts in the early grades and continues through the child’s school career. Your parental involvement will contribute to your child’s success in the educational process. Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education directly benefits the child. These advantages include higher levels of academic achievement, positive attitudes toward school and community, and greater maturity and personal responsibility. Because the benefits are so solid, we urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our strong community school.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2016, the Milton Town School District will be hosting the first Community Dinner of the 2016-2017 School Year from 4:30 – 7:00 pm in the Middle School Cafeteria. This will coincide with the Milton Activities Fair which will be set up in Middle School lobby and run from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
Our dynamic and dedicated staff continues to design rich and stimulating learning opportunities in a context where ALL children are nurtured and challenged to reach their full potential. Milton Elementary School is an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative learning community that inspires pride in its students, educators, parents, and townspeople. Our educational community believes students must take ownership for their learning – thinking critically, creatively, and globally across disciplines. ALL students are challenged with authentic learning opportunities where instruction is personalized, research-based, data-driven and enriched by the integration of technology. We actively encourage and support student education beyond the classroom and understand that learning is ultimately a lifelong process.
At Milton Elementary School, like other great schools, we ground our decisions on what is best for ALL students. This effort will enable individual students to think and work both independently and cooperatively to solve complex, real-world problems, develop high-level academic and personal skills, and cultivate inquiring minds. Success one child at a time – the focused effort to meet each child’s unique needs for growth socially, emotionally, and academically – is on-going and intentional. We use formative and summative assessments to gather data on academic growth for each student. That information is used to develop appropriate classroom, small group, and individualized instructional experiences. The regular review and revision of the curriculum in each of the content areas ensures that teachers are providing the best possible learning opportunities for ALL students. The teachers and staff at Milton Elementary School “know” their students by identifying their individual strengths, unique challenges, and personal passions while striving for a positive school experience. With a curriculum that has an intentional focus on “High Quality First Instruction”, the staff’s work and our partnership with the parents make Milton Elementary School a dynamic learning environment for ALL students.
In closing, our intention is to make this the best school year possible. We take great satisfaction in giving our best to your best, your child. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions, concerns, or just want to talk. We are here for ALL students and families.
