Welcome to the Milton Elementary School website!

Milton Elementary currently serves approximately 1000 students in grades Pre-K through 6.  Class sizes average 18 students per class in grades K-3, and 22 per class in grades 5-6.

We had a busy summer here at MES. Teachers in grades K-6 worked on reading, math, science, and social studies curriculum.  Authentic technology integration continues to be a focus of this work as we strive to create 21st century classrooms for all of our students.

A team of teachers and administrators attended the BEST Institute in Killington in late June to develop our 2009-2010 implementation plan for Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) at MES.  PBS is a school-wide plan for teaching social competence to all children.  We are very excited about this work, and will keep you informed over the following weeks and months as we begin this first year.  We hope that you will be hearing a lot about it from your children at home as well.  In the interim, you can also learn more about PBS at the following websites: www.pbis.org and www.pbsvermont.org.

Our Teacher Leaders and administrators also began “Critical Friends” training with coaches from the National School Reform Faculty of Vermont this past summer.  This professional development is a critical step in our implementation of Teacher Learning Communities (TLCs) at Milton Elementary this school year.  As members of a professional learning community at Milton Elementary School, our common mission is to improve the learning outcomes for all students and to make a positive, significant difference in their lives.  By focusing on collaboration, we will learn from each other as we refine our practice and ensure student learning.

In that same vein, we know that as a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher.  Please contact us should you have any questions about your child’s progress or experiences at Milton Elementary.  Our office doors are always open.
We look forward to working with you in the best interest of your child's education in this new school year.
