The fourth grade program at Milton Elementary School consists of 8 classrooms. The types of classroom configurations in fourth grade consist of Multiage grouping, Looping, Vertical Team and Single Grade placements. Multiage groupingrefers to "a class grouping in which students of different ages and identified age levels are grouped together in a single classroom for the purpose of providing effective instruction." The intention is to allow children of various ages and abilities to work together in the classroom. Our multi-age teams do separate their students by grade for Literacy and Math due to our core programs in those areas. Children in these classrooms do loop with their classroom teacher as well. Single Grade – This is a structure that has a group of children working with a classroom teacher for one year and then placed in another class the following year with a new teacher. This model is the one most commonly found in schools. While there are different models, it is also important to note that the curriculums they teach are the same and the expectations with each grade level are consistent throughout each class. All children will receive instruction that covers the same high standards using materials and techniques that are high quality and research- based. |
The teachers currently teaching fourth grade are: Jennifer Cummings, Linda Dion, Erica Goodrich, Stephanie Hurley, Kristi Lombard, Carmel Osborne, Leslie Read and Julie Talley. |
