Visual art is important to the development of the total child. Student artists study the basic elements of art: line, shape, color, form, and texture. They work with a variety of mediums. They include drawing, painting, print-making, collage, paper mache, plaster, clay and mixed media. The goals of the program are to introduce and review skills stated in our visual art curriculum. At the same time allowing students to make choices for themselves, develop a sense of aesthetics and view art as another means of communication. Several times during the year the art curriculum will integrate with other academic areas so students will develop an appreciation for other cultures and our world. Student artists have one period a week for 45 minutes. Grading is based on the completion of each masterpiece showing an openness tp explore and experiment in a unique and creative personal style using the skills that were taught in the lesson. Self-management and effort are also consodered int he students final grade. Please feel free to stroll through the corridors of Herrick Elementary School to view the masterpieces designed by our student artists. We also have a rotating display at the Milton Public Library for the community to enjoy. It is a pleasure to serve your child! |
