NECAP (New England Common Assessment Program) Science Assessment
This spring, May 2008, students in grades 4, 8 and 11 will take the NECAP Science Assessment. The assessment was piloted with students in May 2007. The Science Assessment, like the Reading, Math and Writing assessment was custom designed in collaboration with Rhode Island and New Hampshire department of education. The assessment measures proficiency on the science grade level expectations (GLE’s).
The Inquiry Task (Extended Response) session for Grade 4 students will be a performance task, where students complete an inquiry investigation, gather data and analyze that data.
The Inquiry Task (Extended Response) session for Grade 8 students will alternate the formats described above- some years having a performance task and other years having a data-analysis investigation.
The Inquiry Task (Extended Response) session for Grade 11 students will be a data-analysis investigation, where students will receive a set of real-life data and answer questions about how further investigations might proceed.
