Vermont DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment)
Grade 2The Vermont Developmental Reading Assessment (VT-DRA) is a state mandated assessment given in the spring of grade 2. This test is one part of Vermont’s assessment system and gives us ways to look at the kind of progress students are making toward meeting the some of the Vermont Grade Level Expectations. The test is administered individually and it assesses a child’s ability to read orally as well as to comprehend text. Each student reads aloud to a teacher using short books at a comfortable ability level. The goal of the assessment is to find the highest proficiency level at which the student can read accurately and comprehend what is being read. At the highest proficiency level (honors), children must demonstrate fluency with their oral reading as well.
