The Milton Early Education Program

8 January 2015 by Karen West

The Milton Early Education Program is our publicly funded preschool located at the Milton Elementary School. Our program provides preschool education services for over 100 children ages 3-5. We are accredited by the National Association For The Education of Young Children and we have achieved 5 Stars from the Department of Children and Families. The teachers and speech therapists who work within the program are all master level teachers and the support staff is highly trained.

One primary purpose of our program is to provide special education services for young children who are on Individual Education Plans. These services happen within the integrated classrooms. In order to provide an integrated environment for our youngest learners, there are community slots available to children ages 3-5 who reside in the town of Milton. There is no cost for these slots and all children can access busing. The 3 year old program is two 1/2 days and the four year old program is three 1/2 days per week. There are both morning and afternoon preschool sessions. Enrollment in the program for community slots occur through a state mandated lottery draw each April. Once a child is enrolled, they are eligible to attend preschool until Kindergarten age.

If you are interested in entering your child in to the lottery for the 2015-16 school year, please use the following link and fill out the brief survey. Children must be 3 years old by 9/1/15. All information is kept confidential. If you have any questions about community slots or the lottery draw please call Jennifer Knowles at 893-5613 or 316-6181 or email jknowles@mtsd-vt.org

If your child was on the waiting list for the 2014-15 school year you will need to re-enter them in the lottery for the 2015-16 school year. If your child currently attends our program there is no need to re-enter the lottery.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s development please call 893-5613 and one of our special education teachers or speech therapists will get back to you to schedule a screening.

Please note that slots are VERY limited especially in the 4 year old class. Do not hesitate into looking for other preschool options for your child. There are also slots available in community preschool settings through the Early Education Collaborative (not in the school). If you are interested in more information about those slots, please contact Wendy Cunningham at 802-324-1211 or wcunningham@mtsd-vt.org
