Celebrate an ‘Un-Birthday’
If Alice in Wonderland can have an “un-birthday,” so can your child. Ask him to pick a day when just the two of you will do something special. Then let him decide how to celebrate. Whether it’s spent visiting a museum, reading favorite books or preparing dinner together, time with you reinforces your child’s self-confidence and esteem—two of the best “un-birthday” gifts around.

Safeguard your child against school bullies
Elementary school children are frequent targets of bullies. But they are less likely to be victims if they appear confident and resourceful. Encourage your child to: Steer clear of children with bullying behavior. Be assertive rather than violent when a bully picks on her. Walk away from dangerous situations. If you think your child is being bullied, tell the school immediately.
