Who will your child call in an emergency?
Does your child know who to call in an emergency? Don’t wait for a crisis to find out. You should have these numbers by your telephone: Police, fire and emergency responders (911). Parent’s work phone and cell phone. A nearby neighbor. Relatives. Post these numbers by every telephone in your home. Teach your child which number to call under different circumstances.

It takes all kinds: Celebrate diversity at the library
Take some time this month to help your child learn about diversity. One way to begin is to foster understanding of other cultures. On your next library trip, read folk tales from other lands with your child. Check out a cookbook from another country and choose a recipe to try. Find a book that includes words from many languages. With your child, learn how to say “hello,” “please” and “thank you” in five languages.
