To motivate a reluctant reader, start with things he likes
You know your child should read more, but he just isn’t interested in picking up a book. Encourage him by asking about a book he enjoyed. (OK, ask your child about a book that wasn’t too bad. Reluctant readers might not have a favorite book.) Check at the library or online to see if that author has written other books. And read aloud. If you can get to the “good part,” he may read the rest of the book.
