Because the Milton Elementary School has been identified under federal law (“No Child Left Behind Act”) as not meeting Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), you may request supplemental services for your child. The term “supplemental services” means extra help, outside the school day, provided to students in reading, language arts and math at the expense of the school district. MES has been identified in reading and math, MMS and MHS have been identified in math only. Transportation must be provided by the parents.
As part of the law, only children who are eligible for free and reduced lunch are able to participate in this program. If you are not currently eligible for free or reduced lunch, but believe you may be, we would encourage you to contact Steve Marinelli at 893-3215 ext 1313, and ask for an application. If you are determined to be eligible, then you will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
Certain providers have been approved by the Vermont Agency of Education to give supplemental services. If you are interested in pursuing these services, please feel free to call and we will review the provider list that is attached. You can also access our MTSD website for this information www.mtsd-vt.org or this link,
We can help you select a provider, if you ask for our help, but the choice of who will provide the supplemental services is yours to make. When asked by parents, we will not recommend any providers, but can advise on who we are familiar with.
These services are also available, and can be accessed during the summer. If you need help selecting a provider, please call me at 893-3210, Ext. 1136. Once a provider has been selected, we will work with you and the provider to develop a service plan for your child.
If you are interested in supplemental services, please let me know no later than February 20, 2014.
