Introduction 

Now that you have read the story Dolphins at Daybreak by Mary Pope Osborne, you have learned about dolphins and the ocean. It's time to go on an ocean journey of your own. Grab your gear and jump in. The water's warm.

You and your partner's task is to create a poster that shows your classmates what you have learned. To do this, you must start by asking five questions about dolphins. Use your Internet and other resources to find the information to answer your team's questions.

• I will assign you a partner.
• You and your partner will use the facts sheet to develop 5 questions that you have about dolphins.
  • If you and your partner are having trouble developing five questions you may go down and look at some of the resources to help.
  • If you have your questions and after having done some of the research, want to modify or add to those questions you may.
• These questions must be approved by me before you go on.
• You will then use the resources listed below to find the answers to your questions.
• After you do your research, you will create a poster showing the facts you have learned.
• Your poster must contain:

  • A Title
  • Your facts and information
  • At least one picture from the Internet and one picture that you have drawn

• Your poster must:

  • Be neatly laid out
  • Have correct spelling
  • Be colorful

• You will organize your facts and show your layout to an adult before you start the final poster.
• Please see the assessment rubric so you know what is expected on your poster.
• You will share your poster with the group when you are done.

You will be using many resources in your quest for information on dolphins. The online resources are listed in the table below.

Criteria	Getting Started	Almost There	Got It!!
Standard 1.18 and 1.19 Using the Web Quest students use the computer to gather information.	I was able to locate the Web Quest but I had trouble finding the information I needed to answer my questions and gather information.	I was able to locate the Web Quest and to gather information from the links within it. I used my facts sheet to get some facts but not all that I needed. I had trouble moving from other sites on the the Internet back to my Web Quest.	I was able to: locate the Web Quest, gather all the information needed from the links to answer my questions, go from the links back to the Web Quest, and collect all this information on our team's facts sheet.

Standard 1.20 Using the information gathered, students will make a poster to communicate their data accurately and appropriately.	My poster had a title,gave some facts about dolphins that fit 2 out of 5 questions, had either one Internet picture or one drawn by me. It was neat. Spelling was not always correct. It could have been more colorful and was not presented in a very clear or organized way.	My poster had a title,gave some facts about dolphins that fit 4 out of 5 questions, had either one Internet picture or one drawn by me. It was neat. Spelling was not always correct. It could have been more colorful and was presented in a clear and organized way.	My poster had a title,gave all the facts about dolphins that fit my 5 questions, had one Internet picture and one drawn by me. It was neat and contained correct spelling, was colorful and was presented in a clear and organized way.

 

 You have successfully completed your Ocean Journey!!!! Hope you enjoyed your trip. You and your partner should have gathered a lot of facts on dolphins. I hope you had fun making your poster and sharing what you have learned with other teams.
