.
Most people know a little something about the ancient
Egyptian civilization. They have heard of Pharoahs,
pyramids, Cleopatra, the Sphinx, heiroglyphics, King Tut, or
some other common piece of Egytptian lore. What most people
do not know is just how important the after life was to an
ancient Egyptian. Life was so difficult for most ancient
people, that the thought of a pleasant, rewarding life after
death was often the only thing that kept them going. Because
of poor health knowledge, even the richest, most powerful
pharoah proabably lived in discomfort from tooth decay,
digestive disorders, or improperly cared - for injuries. The
way the dead were cared for was an extremely important part
of ancient Egyptian life because that preparation got the
loved one ready for the after life [which was going to
be much, much longer than their regular life had been].
Our job is to find out as much as we can about what they did
for the deceased, where the deceased were put, and all that
happened after a death occurred.
This
flag will link to a great search engine specializing in Ancient
Egyptian information. If you are lucky, it may even link up some good
Egyptian music.
Each student will become a member of an Egyptian " funerary " team. This team will form an ancient Egyptian company that acts similarly to one of our American funeral homes. The teams will compete against other Egyptian funerary companies - through advertising - to get the business when Egyptian families lose a loved one.
1. research what ancient Egyptians believed about the afterlife and about proper burial procedures to make the afterlife as good as possible ;
2. decide which procedures and arrangements would appeal most to the families needing to prepare a departed loved one for the afterlife ;
3. prepare an advertising effort that outlines your company's offerings convincingly.

cited them completely, and added something special from
them Used an imaginative,
entertaining, & convincing pitch to use your services
over others' Participated fully,
showing leadership & willingness to help others. A
significant contribution ! Used several sources
well, and cited them completely. Used a pitch
convincing enough to use your services over
others' Participated fully,
showing some willingness to help others. A reasonable
contribution. Used at least a source
well, but cited it incompletely. Produced a pitch with
good info, but not very convincing as an
advertisement Participated often,
seldom showed willingness to help. Some
contribution. Cannot tell if sources
were used, and / or did not cite them at all. Pitch contains very
little information and is not very convincing as an
ad Participated seldom,
showed no willingness to help. Little or no
contribution.

Have you learned a little more about the beliefs ancient Egyptians held about death and the afterlife ? Hopefully, this webquest will spark an interest in some students, and they will go on to seek further information on the subject. The webquest was not designed to go very deeply into the subject. Perhaps, one user of this this webquest will go on to further studies and become an archeologist [or a mortician :)]
Upon completing your responsibilities for this webquest, I would ask that you complete some small tasks for me - to help me determine what worked here and what needs improvement.
Here are some more websites where you might find out information about ancient Egyptians.
