An Example of a Well - Chosen Person Who is Researched Properly

 

Major General Henry Knox

 

1. Chosen, at first, because he is not as well - known as some of the people he served with .

2. What did he do to effect the outcome of an event or some events ?

    a.  He directed the transport of the Fort Ticonderoga cannons from the fort to Boston in only a few months.

   b.  His accuracy in directing his men to shoot the cannons caused the British to evacuate Boston in March of 1776.

   c.   He remained with Washington and provided good artillery support in New York, Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth. The gunners later displayed their proficiency with siege warfare at Yorktown.

3. The Battle of Yorktown, which Knox helped to win for the Continentals, caused the British to give up the war.

4. Other interesting facts about Henry Knox:

   a. Knox taught himself how to use artillery by reading books about artillery in his Boston bookstore before the war.

   b. Knox was always one of Washington's favorites. He picked on Henry often and called him "Knox the Little Ox".

    c. Knox became Secretary of War in Washington's very first Presidential cabinet in 1789.
