3. The Performance Task
Students
will research Native American cultures and then analyze the information they
collect to compare and contrast two different populations.
Goal(s): Students will create a
multimedia presentation comparing and contrasting two different Native American
populations. Students will focus their attention on the types of natural
resources available and how they used them to meet their basic needs (food,
shelter, and clothing).
Role: Researcher and analyst
Audience: Instructor and peers
Situation: The students have just
won a contest and will be starring in a documentary on Native American
cultures. They will be portraying Native Americans from two different regions,
the Northeast Woodlands and the Plains.
They will need to start researching for their roles. Since they don’t know which culture they will
be assigned to, they must learn about both.
They will be comparing and contrasting each region and asked to put
themselves into the role of one of the First Americans who lived in these
regions early in our history.
Product/Performance: Multimedia Presentation
