Sight Words

Children will learn to read in a variety of ways including the use of picture clues and sounding out, but a good base of sight words (words that can be read instantly) will help your child gain more confidence as a reader, read with better fluency and pull more meaning from print.

Sight words your child has been introduced to in Kindergarten this year:

I, can, am, is, see, like, cat, zoo, Dad, dog, said " ", yes, no, here, a, the, this, my, look, love, Mom, oh, he, stop, she, go, up, down, it, come

Make flash cards or a list. Please include names of family and friends as well.

Don't forget to do the cheers we practiced.

 Book It!

Our school is participating in the Book It! program. Your child will bring home a reading contract each month beginning in October and ending in March. This contract will tell you how many books your child needs to read or listen to. Just list the titles on the contract as you read them. Once you reach the quota, sign the contract and send it back to school. Your child will receive a coupon to get a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Children who complete all 5 contracts will be recognized at the year's end.

The school store offers children the opportunity to make choices, purchase tools for skill building, and use money/experience economics(a social studies standard).

The store is run by the PTA and profits go into maintaining the store and the PTA general fund which is used to support many school and teacher projects.

Kindergarten classes visit the School Store once a month. We have finished our visits to the School Store.

We had fun learning about the country of china.

Can you see it on the world globe?

We go to the computer lab often. We get practice reading using a program called Lexia. We have learned how to make designs on the computer with a drawing program called Tool Factory.

This design is by Asa.
