LETTER CHART AND KEY WORDS

We will be implementing the Houghton Mifflin Literacy Program again this year.  Children are practicing these letters by telling a story about the letter.  The story follows the same pattern for each letter.  The story is:  the name of the letter, followed by a key word, then the sound.  For vowels, we are practicing the short vowel sound to begin with.  An example of a story is:  Bb, bear, /b/.  Have fun practicing these stories and sounds with your child.

Book It!

The Milton PTA is again sponsoring the Book It! Reading Program.  Students are given a contract at the beginning of the month to read a certain number of books during the month.  Once your child has recorded the titles for the books, the contract is signed by both student and parent.  When the contract is brought back to school, I will give them a coupon to get a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut.  This program will fun for 6 months (6 free personal pan pizzas if your child brings the contracts back to school).  This program began in October.  It will end in March.

For our participation in this worthwhile program, the PTA will give me $75 to purchase books for my classroom at Barnes & Noble.

December contracts have been sent home.  Students will need to read/be read 10 books this month.  Happy Reading!!!
