Procedure for Allowing Faculty and Student Use of Personal Computers and other Digital Devices on the Milton Town School District Network

 

            Students and faculty in the Milton Town School District are allowed to bring their own personal computer and other digital devices on campus under the following conditions. 

 

 

  1. Antivirus software must be present and up-to –date. Technology Department can recommend Open Source (free) Anti-Virus software if user doesn’t have any present on their computer.

 

  1. In order to protect the potential of legal issues for the district due to illegal file sharing as well as overwhelming the bandwidth, no file sharing software can be present on the computer/device

 

  1. Computer must be inspected for antivirus and file sharing software by Technology Department prior to access. Regular times will be established for these inspections. IT Department will record information about each personal device including the MAC address.

 

  1. User agrees to allow “spot checks” to confirm 1 and 2 above.

 

  1. Technology Department will provide information on accessing the Internet, Network Drives, and printing via written documentation.

 

  1. Users are bound by the MTSD Policies and Procedures while using the computer/device on campus.

 

  1. Users who are found to use personal computers/devices without signed authorization by the Technology Department that it has been checked for 1 and 2 above, fail “spot checks,” do not follow policy and procedures (including using filter by-pass sites or software), or otherwise abuse the privilege, will be reported to the school Principal and run the distinct risk of having their network account disabled.

 

  1. Users assume all risk of loss and/or damage to their personal devices. We recommend you keep your personal device in your possession at all times.

 

An updated list of students and faculty who have been given access will be provided to campus administrators monthly.
